Important Update to Committee Duties and Chairmanship – November 2017

Dear All,

Following a committee meeting held on 07th November, I have some important updates for you on committee duties and the role of Chairman.

David has now stepped down from his role as chairman having had seven years of involvement with the club.  Please join me in thanking David for his efforts and guiding the club to where it is today and to wish him well in the future.

During the committee meeting the role of Chairman/Chairwoman was discussed and it was decided that both Cyril Madigan and Laura Sage would take on joint responsibility for the foreseeable future, therefore the duties that were allocated previously have been re-allocated as follows;

Chairpeople: Cyril Madigan / Laura Sage

Membership Secretary: Cyril Madigan

Website Maintenance: Cyril Madigan

New Member Contact point : Joolz Evans

Subs and Membership collection: Laura Sage

Thank you for the support you continue to give Sherwood Seals

Important Update to Committee Duties and Chairmanship

Dear All,

Following a committee meeting held on 26th September, I have some important updates for you on committee duties and the role of Chairman.

It is with a good deal of regret that, after seven years of involvement, I must announce I will be stepping down as Chairman and Membership Secretary of Sherwood Seals.  A change in my personal circumstances means that I can no longer guarantee my availability for the swimming session on a Monday. As such, I don’t want to start letting the club down and so must hand over my roles within the club to others.

During the committee meeting, several duties were re-allocated as follows;

Membership Secretary: Cyril Madigan

Website Maintenance: Cyril Madigan

New Member Contact point : Joolz Evans

Subs and Membership collection: Laura Sage

The role of Chairman/Chairwoman still needs to be filled.

I’m sure you will agree that Sherwood Seals is an important part of our members lives providing a safe and accepting space for them to exercise, socialise and learn to swim.

However, it still remains that the club belongs to the members and carers, with the committee volunteering to be the custodians of running the club.

The committee now need more help to operate the club on a week by week basis and are asking for support. Without a Chairman/Chairwoman and new committee members to take the club forward, there is a real risk that Sherwood Seals could dwindle and cease to exist.

If you would be willing to provide a little of your time to maintain the running of Sherwood Seals so more new members can benefit from what it offers, please speak to a member of the committee who will be happy to discuss what would be involved.

Thank you for the support you continue to give Sherwood Seals

Seal News – July 2017

Hello

As we come to the end of term, on behalf of the committee, I just wanted to say thank you to all of the members, carers and volunteers for what has been a successful year of swimming at Sherwood Seals swimming club.

Over the year, we have been able to introduce a greater structure to our sessions which has included our approach to award achievement. Whether it be swimming 1000m or simply having the confidence to jump in the pool by themselves, we have been able to reward those who want to record their achievements on a regular basis.

We also want to ensure that the members can work towards their achievement on a week by week basis, making steady progress to get ready to attempt an award. Linda will observe and support each week and be able to guide the member on the appropriate time to take their next step.

It’s been fantastic to see the enjoyment and pleasure that our swimmers get out of such achievements, but also to see the pleasure that everyone gets out of taking part in a safe and social environment.

Next session back

Our last session of the summer will be on 24th of August and we return on 11th September for a 6 week term running to 16th October. For those of you that like to pay in advance, this will mean the term fee is £27.

Volunteers

As many of you will be aware, we are a voluntary run club and we rely on our volunteers giving up their time to help our members in the pool.

Some of our volunteers are parents, but others are from various backgrounds who just want to help us out.

A number of younger volunteers have been at school, and have sat their GCSE and A Level Exams. A number will also now be moving onto the next stage of their lives with University, job’s etc.

The help and support we have had from all of our younger volunteers is absolutely fantastic and the support, effort and time they have put into helping all of our members is greatly appreciated by me and I am sure you as well.

We have had some new volunteers joining us to help, but if we are low on numbers, can I ask  parents and carers step in and help during this period so our members can still enjoy swimming and get the levels of support they need.

We have been having some great sessions over the last few weeks so your help in keeping that atmosphere going will be greatly appreciated.

Have a great summer break and see you in September.

Goodbye and thank you to Joe and Sue

At the Annual General Meeting on 2nd May, Joe and Sue announced their intentions to step down from the committee due to ill health.

For all of our members, Joe and Sue were our welcoming committee for several years, collecting the money each week, laughing and joking with everyone who came and giving everyone a warm reception.

That warm reception helped a lot of our members who suffer with anxiety, or were just a little nervous starting something new, to settle in and have a great time.

Between them they have very much gone the extra mile for the club and its members. Even in ill health they have turned up and supported us, because as they always said: “We wont let you down!”

We are very sad to see them go, but are very thankful that they have helped us as much as they have.

Thanks again, and stay in touch.
